Alumoottil, an emblem of aristocracy within the Ezhava lineage, is a historic Tharavad in Karthikapally Taluk, Alappuzha district, Kerala, situated in Muttom, Haripad, Valiakuzhy Muri, Cheppad village, and renowned for its stately mansion, the Meda, and its Naalukettu courtyard, both bearing a legacy of architectural grandeur spanning 425 and 125 years, respectively. The lineage has inspired numerous cinematic masterpieces, including Manichitrathazhu and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and featured as the Brahmana-mana in Rakthasakshikal Zindabad.

Since the 1740s, the family played a pivotal role as the highest contributor to the Travancore kingdom’s treasury, with its chieftains serving as trusted military and economic advisors, while also managing spice trade pivotal to European and Arab commerce. Renowned for its expertise in Kalaripayattu, the Alummoottil® Tharavad trained 10,000 infantrymen and 2,500 cavalrymen annually across 64 Kalaris, with its Gurukkals contributing significantly to martial arts styles like Vadakkan Kalari, Kalariyarpayattu, and Arappukkai. These styles emphasized physical and mental strength, with techniques influenced by mythological figures and regional traditions, embodying a rich legacy of martial arts excellence and cultural heritage.
